John Keats (1795–1821) remains one of the most celebrated voices of English Romantic poetry. Rising from a humble background and trained as an apothecary, Keats was introduced to the literary world through Leigh Hunt’s circle. Though at first mocked as part of the so-called “Cockney School,” he is now firmly recognized as one of the foremost poets of the second generation of Romantics, alongside Byron and Shelley.
The Selected Poems of John Keats capture his lyrical genius, delicate imagery, and profound meditations on beauty, love, and mortality. This collection brings together his finest works, revealing the richness of his imagination and the intensity of his vision.
Keats’s life was tragically short, cut down by tuberculosis at the age of 25. He spent his final days in Italy, where he died in Rome. His epitaph reads, “Here lies one whose name was writ in water,” yet his poetry endures as a timeless testament to the Romantic spirit and remains among the most influential in English literature.
